Gibberella fujikuroi (Saw.) Ito apud Ito & Kimura [=Fusarium moniliforme Sheldon]
Classification: Ascomycota, Pyrenomycetes, Hypocreales, Hypocreaceae

 Widely distributed in Japan. Causes Bakanae disease of rice and scab of corn and is frequently isolated as a leaf inhabitant from various plants. It may be utilized as a biocontrol agent for restricting plant diseases. Disperses by scattering conidia. Ascospores found only on dead plants.

Morphology:
 Teleomorph: Ascocarp dark blue, producing ellipsoid to clavate asci inside. Ascospores hyaline, ellipsoid, 14-18 x 4.5-6 um with 1-2(-3) septa.
 Anamorph: Microconidia produced on phialides, catenate, hyaline, oblong, 5-12 x 1.5-2.5 um, with 0(-1) septum. Macroconidia produced in acervuli, hyaline, long fusoid, tapered to the ends, straight or cueved, 25-60 x 2.5-4 um with 3-7 septa.
