[SIP] International Smart Food Chain Symposium 2020 held online

On November 5, 2020, International Smart Food Chain Symposium 2020 was held online by the Smart Food Chain Consortium, part of the Technologies for Smart Bio-industry and Agriculture Project under the Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP).

Rosa Rolle, Ph.D., Senior Enterprise Development Officer and Team Leader, Food Loss and Waste, Food and Nutrition Division, FAO, and Mr. Noriaki Kobayashi, Program Director of SIP gave keynote speeches.

Oral presentations on the following themes were given.

  • Food Safety and Smart Food Chains
  • Introduction of Efforts for Utilization in Distribution of Smart Food Chains
  • Development of a Data-driven System for Forecasting Crop Growth to Support Efficient Agricultural Operation and Reduction of Food Loss
  • Introducing a PoC (Proof of Concept) Test of a Smart Food Chain

In the poster session, individual research presentations related to smart food chain were given using online meeting tools.

In the panel discussion, titled " Possibilities and Expectations for the Development of an International Smart Food Chain," experts from Vietnam, Thailand were invited, and active discussions were held on issues related to the effects of smart food chains on business and distribution economics and future challenges for the smart food chain development in Asia.
