[Moonshot] Dr. Ryo Sugiura (NARO) presented the IPM Project under the Moonshot R&D to the expert group of International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) community (January 18, 2023).

February 21, 2023 (Tuesday)

A presentation was made by Dr. Ryo Sugiura on the Project for integrated pest management (IPM), led by the Project Manager Dr. Norihide Hinomoto (Professor, Kyoto University) under the Moonshot R&D Program, to the expert group of International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) community, on their visit to Tsukuba Agriculture Research Hall on January 18, 2023. The research attempt attracted the group, with a focus on plant pest controls with less chemical use, such as laser shooting with AI, and the active exchange took place (e.g., specificity of pest identification and cost/effect performance).

For their visit, Dr. Yasuo Ohto, Dr. Ryo Nakano and Ms. Yuko Hayashi also provided research efforts in Tsukuba, including the ultrasonic use to control insect pests as well as national R&D system and science communication to the public.

Note: The IPPC is an international treaty signed by over 180 countries, aiming to protecting the world's plant resources from the spread and introduction of pests, and promoting safe trade. The IPPC Secretariat is hosted by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy.
