Hokkaido Agricultural Research Center, NARO

The Technology Application Research Team conducts research to optimize and systematize technologies developed by NARO (National Agriculture and Food Research Organization) to suit the conditions at extension sites, working to accelerate their social implementation.
At the Hokkaido Agricultural Research Center, we are primarily working on two technologies. One of our major projects is the development of an AI-based seed potato rogueing support system. Developed in collaboration with the Research Center for Agricultural Information Technology and the Center for Seeds and Seedlings, the system aims to support abnormal plant removal and contribute to a stable supply of seed potatoes.The other is the "AI-based Potato Harvester," developed in collaboration with Research Center for Agricultural Robotics and other institutes. This device automatically removes soil clods and stones using flaps linked to AI cameras, with the aim of reducing the number of workers required for on-board sorting on potato harvesters. We are conducting joint research with a manufacturer toward its commercialization.
