Overview
The NARO R&D activities follow the "Basic Plan for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Research" developed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF). The mid-term plan is implemented for a period of five years, and the accomplishments for each research program are evaluated annually by the NARO evaluation committee and then by the MAFF evaluation committee. In order to promote various research of NARO, external evaluation on the research quality and direction of specific programs from international perspectives by overseas reviewers has been undertaken from the third mid-term plan (FY2011-2015). In the international peer review process, experts and specialists in related research areas are invited as reviewers to evaluate the research projects based on quality, direction and applicability of the results to the agriculture and food industry. As NARO embark on the 4th mid-term plan (FY2016-2020), the international peer review meeting aims to evaluate the research programs on animal husbandry, plant protection, and biological function.
