Chibikko Hakase 2018 at NIAES
The Institute for Agro-Environmental Sciences, NARO (NIAES) is organizing the following programs and events in conjunction with the Tsukuba Chibikko Hakase 2018: (1) Insect collection class, (2) Summer Open Day, (3) Let's look under the soil surface, (4) Soil and Insect Inventory Exhibition. Advanced registration is required for programs (1) and (3). Please check the qualifications for participation and follow the procedure for application. We look forward to your participation.
What is Chibikko Hakase
Tsukuba Chibikko Hakase is a stamp-collecting rally where children visit research institutions, experience exhibitions and various events in each institute, and have a special passport stamped. The special passport is distributed by the Tsukuba City office. Children in the elementary and junior high school level can participate even if they live outside Tsukuba.
(1) Insect collection class: Collecting insects and making specimens
The main objective of this program is to investigate the name of insects collected in the NIAES campus and to make a specimens of the insect. (In case of rain the program will be conducted inside the room).

Eligibility
Elementary school children (3rd grade or higher) and junior high school students.

※ If applicants exceed the maximum number, participants will be selected by lottery.

What to bring: drinks, insect basket, insect trapping net (if you have)
What to wear: hat, long-sleeves with long trousers, long shoes or exercise shoes (sandals are not allowed)
(2) Summer Open Day
NARO Summer Open Day will be held in four venues including the Tsukuba Agriculture Research Hall. There will be lots of tips and ideas that will help school children in preparing their homework during the summer vacation. Also various activities and events designed for both parents and children to enjoy.

(3) Let's look under the surface - Micro monolith-making
Observing the soil layers appeared in the hole dug in the ground inside the NIAES campus and preparing micro monolith (soil specimen).

(4) Soil and Insects Inventory Exhibition
Observe various insect and soil specimens from Japan and overseas at the Natural Resources Inventory Museum.

- Take the JR Joban Line from Ueno Station and get off at Ushiku Station. From the West Exit, take the Kantetsu Bus bound for Tsukuba Center, Tsukuba-Daigaku-Chuo, Yatabe-Shako, or Seibutu-Ken-Owashi and get off at Nougyo-Kankyo-Gijutsu-Kenkyusho-Mae.
- Take the Tsukuba Express Line from Akihabara Station and get off at Tsukuba Station. Take the Tsuku Bus ‘Nambu Shuttle’ and get off at Norin Danchi Chuo
- Take the Tsukuba Express Line from Akihabara Station and get of at Midorino Station. Take the Kantetsu Bus ‘Norin-Danchi-Junkan’ and get off at Norin Danchi Chuo.
