The President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dr. V. Lomovhe, accompanied by researchers from the academy visited the Institute of Crop Science, NARO (NICS) on February 28, 2018 to explore research collaboration aimed at solving issues in agriculture in the temperate zone. Dr. Masahiro Yano, Director-General of NICS gave an overview of the institute and some issues facing crop production in Japan. The directors of the research divisions of NICS also talked about research on rice, wheat, barley, and other field crops as well as genomic breeding. Discussions focused on research genome breeding and DNA marker selection, and common problems faced by both countries in agricultural production.
