It has been 100 years passed since the first breeding cross of sweetpotato had been practiced in Okinawa, Japan in 1914. During these past 100 years sweetpotato has been significantly improved and has contributed to agriculture, industry and economy in the East Asian countries. In this symposium, recent activities, current status and future prospects of sweetpotato research will be shared and discussed by all the participants from China, Korea and Japan. The organizing committee sincerely hopes this symposium will encourage the further development of East Asia by promoting sweetpotato research activity in this area.
