On Tuesday, November 16th, 2021, the international workshop "Realizing Smart & Sustainable Agriculture through Standardization" was jointly organized by NARO and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Standards Association (IEEE SA).
The workshop was held in a hybrid format that combines an online method in which more than 400 people from 48 countries have registered in advance and an onsite method limited to invitees at a conference hall in Tokyo.
Following the keynote speech in which the presidents of both co-organizers expressed their expectations for standardization activities through collaboration, an invited speaker from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry introduced activities related to standardization in Japan. In the technical session in the latter half of the workshop, researchers made presentations and discussions.
Experts exchanged opinions on how the standardizations can be utilized in the field of agriculture and what benefits will be brought to farmers. Through the discussions, the importance of standardization of research results in the fields of agriculture and food industry was reaffirmed.
