A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty of France visited NARO

On October 19, 2023, five members of the 8th Japan-France Working Group on Agriculture including Mr. Frédéric Lambert, Head of the Europe and international department, General Directorate for Economic and Environmental Performance of Enterprises (DGPE), and Dr. Emmanuelle SOUBEYRAN, Deputy Director General and Chief Veterinary Officer, General Directorate for Food (DGAL), visited NARO along with four members from the French Embassy in Japan and five members from Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. After welcoming remarks from NARO Director General MORITA and remarks by Director Lambert, Senior Vice President NAKATANI gave an overview of the NARO and explained the current status of cooperation between NARO and France. Next, at the Natural Resources Inventory Museum, Dr. YAMAMOTO, Director of Institute for Agro-Environmental Sciences, explained recent climate change mitigation research, "Digital Soil Map" and "Website for Visualizing CO2 Absorption in Soil". Then, Dr. HAYASHI, Manager, Division of Intelligent Agricultural Machinery Research, Institute of Agricultural Machinery, explained the development status of robot agricultural machinery and demonstrated the automatic operation of a robot tractor. At the end, Dr. KIMURA, Manager, Division of Food Processing and Biomaterials Research, Institute of Food Research, gave an explanation of fermented foods in Japan. A lively exchange of views took place at each site.
