International symposium on low-carbon agriculture co-hosted by NARO and FFTC held successfully

On October 17th and 18th, 2023, the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO) and the Food and Fertilizer Technology Center for the Asian and Pacific Region (FFTC) collaboratively organized the TARI-TLRI-TNDARES-NARO-FFTC Workshop. Themed "Developing Low-carbon Farming for Smallholders in the Asian and Pacific Region: Options, Mitigation Potential, and Challenges," the event adopted a hybrid conference format, featuring both on-site sessions at the GIS Taichung Xinwuri Convention Center and virtual participation. Engaging attendees from 10 countries, the workshop comprised 17 expert presentations spanning keynote lectures and four thematic sessions. These sessions delved into diverse topics, including greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction technologies, soil carbon sequestration, the integration of digital technologies, and the exploration of low-carbon farming business models within both farmland and livestock production. The culminating panel discussion centered on the practicality of carbon credits, underscored the significance of data in their implementation, and highlighted the imperative for eco-branding to enhance understanding among government bodies, markets, and consumers.
