Division of Large-Scale Upland Farming Research

In a large-scale upland farming area in Hokkaido, we are developing labor-saving production and stable supply technologies in line with the scaling up of upland crops such as wheat, beans, potatoes, and sugar beet.
In this division, there are three groups: "Smart Farming System Group", " Agro-Environment and Pest Management Group", and " Field Crop Breeding Group". These groups are engaged in Development of efficient and rational production technologies based on information such as field environments, aerial images of crops, and meteorological data; Development of technologies to overcome production risks such as weather, diseases, and insect damage; and Breeding of wheat, potatoes, sugar beet, buckwheat and other varieties.
