Polymerase chain reaction assay was found applicable to the diagnosis of diseases caused by chicken anemia virus (CAV) infection instead ofvirus isolation. The CAV gene was detected in several sources such as CAV-infected MDCC-MSB1 cells, formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue, formalin-fixed tissue, tissue homogenates from affected chickens.
