24. Seroepidemiological Survey of Bovine Neospora caninum Infection in Japan

A nation wide survey was carried out to clarify the serological prevalence of Neospora caninum infection among dairy cattle in Japan. Seroprevalence in dairy cattle with a history of abnormal parturition was significantly higher than that in beef cattle. The average seroprevalence of apparently healthy dairy cattle randomly sampled from 24 prefectures was 5.7%. The risk of abnormal parturition or failure to conceive for seropositive dairy cattle was 6.84 times higher than seronegative animals.
