We developed an economical evaluation method to estimate the loss due to the incidence of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome. Using this method combined with the results of epidemiological surveys, we estimate that the total loss in Japanese farms whose populations suffered from porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome was ¥28 billion in 2006.
