29. Development of polymerase chain reaction assays for detection of bovine papillomaviruses

Japanese

Polymerase chain reaction assays for the detection of the bovine papillomavirus (BPV) L1 gene were developed with degenerate primer pairs subAup/subAdw and subBup/subBdw. All known BPV types in the genera Delta-papillomavirus (PV), Epsilon-PV, and Xi-PV were efficiently detected from papilloma lesions using each primer pair. The use of these polymerase chain reaction assays followed by sequencing also efficiently identified BPV types. Using this method, we detected and isolated one new BPV type, BPV-11, and 2 putative new BPV types, BPV/JPN-NIAH2 and BPV/JPN-NIAH3, from isolated papilloma lesions.
