Overview of the effects of biostimulants and microbial-based agricultural inputs

Our research group aims to achieve sustainable agriculture while maintaining and improving crop productivity by developing environmentally friendly agricultural technologies. We focus on the discovery of novel compounds and beneficial microorganisms, the development of optimized evaluation systems, and the elucidation of underlying mechanisms to provide scientific evidence, from laboratory studies to field trials. In addition, based on the holobiont concept that views plants and associated microorganisms as an integrated system, we conduct fundamental research to identify plants that respond effectively to biostimulants and to develop technologies that visualize their effects.

Plants coexist with a wide variety of microorganism, called endophytes. We found that NB6, a rice endophytic bacterium, produces a substance called tailocin that can kill plant pathogens.
