Succeeded in the whole genome sequencing of 「Shine Muscat」 grapes with high accuracy

~Accelerate the varietal improvement of more delicious and easily cultivable grapes~

Kazusa DNA Research Institute

  • Kazusa DNA Research Institute in collaboration with Institute of Fruit Tree and Tea Science, National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO) carried out the whole-genome analysis of "Shine Muscat" grapes and its genome structure was compared with European wine grapes.

  • Shine Muscat, an interspecific hybrid table grape cultivar developed by NARO has a delicious taste with yellowish green color berries and Muscat flavor. Until now, genome sequencing of European wine grapes has been reported, but the whole genome sequence was not clarified for the interspecific hybrid table grapes.

  • By the clarification of the whole genome sequence "Shine Muscat" at the chromosome level, it is possible to further promote the research on important genes responsible for producing better varieties with high fruit quality and disease-resistant etc. of interspecific hybrid table grapes.

  • The sequence of 490.1Mb, which is 99.4% of the whole genome, was decoded. The research results were published online at BioRχiv on August 19th, 2019.

Fig. 3 Comparison of genomic sequence (X12) of European wine grape "PN40024" (a strain derived from "Pinot Noir") and genome sequences of "Shine Muscat". Red circles represents the regions that are presumed to have different genome structures. Especially on chromosomes 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 18, 19 ,it is considered that "Shine Muscat" has a region where the genome sequence overlaps with "PN40024"
