Ruminal methane production functions as the main sink for metabolic hydrogen generated through rumen fermentation and is recognized as a considerable source of greenhouse gas emissions. The development of multiple enteric methane mitigation strategies is necessary to meet the needs of various farming systems and practices, consumer types, and farming environments. In addition, the mitigation strategies need to maintain or increase feed utilization and animal productivity such as weight gain or milk yield. Our research group tries to provide a better understanding of the ruminal digestion process and rumen function, focusing on rumen fermentation and the functional role of rumen microbiota to identify holistic and environmentally friendly methane mitigation approaches for sustainable ruminant production.
