Ovum pick-up and in vitro produced embryo (OPU-IVP) technology has become widespread in Japan to improve the production of superior calves and promote stable farm management. The demand for embryo transfer is expected to continue to grow. Therefore, there is a need for technologies that accurately evaluate oocyte and embryo quality in livestock operations, as well as for improvements in embryo development efficiency. The Theriogenology Group is working to develop methods for evaluating and producing high-quality embryos for use in embryo transfer. We are also investigating the factors and mechanisms that influence the recovery of reproductive function in postpartum cows, and developing evaluation criteria for recipient cows, as well as technologies to promote early restoration of reproductive function after calving. Our goal is to contribute to the improvement of cattle fertility through embryo transfer in the future.
