Animal Breeding and Genetics Group

Feed cost is a key factor in livestock production. Improving the efficiency of converting feed into products has been important for the genetic improvement of beef cattle and pigs. The Animal Breeding and Genetics Group develops methods for measuring the ability of animals to efficiently convert feed energy into livestock products. In addition, we are developing techniques to enhance the characteristics of livestock products through analyses of gene and metabolite functions.
By applying these technologies in actual breeding programs, we make a contribution to developing livestock that can achieve higher productivity with less feed.
