NARO's 4th Mid-term Plan

The Fourth Mid-term Plan

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan assigned to NARO its Mid-term Objectives in conjunction with the “Basic Plan for Food, Agriculture and Rural Areas” developed every five years based on the Food, Agriculture and Rural Areas Basic Act. to be fulfilled within a period of five years. Upon approval of the MAFF, the Mid-term Plan submitted by NARO is then implemented within a period of five years. So far, NARO has implemented and successfully fulfilled the objectives for the First Mid-term Plan (2001-2005), Second Mid-term Plan (2006-2010), Third Mid-term Plan (2011-2015).

From April 1, 2016, NARO embarks on the 4th Mid-term Plan for FY2016-2020 focusing on 1) Strengthening the capability and management of production sites; 2) Development of new plant cultivars and agricultural products through genomic and agro-biological research and new industrial innovations; 3) Producing high-quality food and ensuring the safety and reliability of agricultural products and food; and 4) Resolution of environmental issues and sustainable use of local resources.
