- The National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO) has updated the genome navigation system TASUKE+ on September 1, 2023. This system enables the user to check huge amount of genome information at a glance. The updated version has significantly improved functionality, is available for free on our website. Currently, it is widely used by researchers targeting grains, vegetables, and fruit trees.
- TASUKE+ act as a cutting-edge system in line with the personal genome era that utilizes each individual's genome information. This updated version enables the users to instantly display and compare large amounts of data and use advanced search functions. It can be used as a powerful tool to support users such as researchers, breeders, and educational institutions, etc. who are handling genomes and genetic information
- A presentation about this updated version of TASUKE+ will be held at the International Plant & Animal Genome Conference 31 (January 12-17, 2024).
Overview
Genome is said to be the blueprint of an organism, and differences in gene functions scattered across the genome cause differences in fruit size, taste, etc. in agricultural crops. In recent years, from the perspective of food security, smart breeding research using genome information has been progressing in order to quickly grow high-yield, high-quality crops. Genome analysis technology is progressing, and a large amount of genome information continues to be acquired every day. In order to breed new varieties, it is necessary to utilize genome information obtained from many varieties to find and improve the genes that cause individuality between varieties. However, in order to handle large amounts of genome information smartly, we require tools that can instantly visualize it like a map and search for genetic information.
In 2013, NARO has published TASUKE, a tool to instantly utilize genome information, and in 2019 an upgraded version, TASUKE+ was published. In September 2023, TASUKE+ was updated with significantly improved functionality and it is available for free on our website.
TASUKE+ is a cutting-edge tool that allows you to organize, visualize, and search the collected genome information, and allows you to view a large amount of genome information at a glance. Genome information is also used for a variety of purposes, such as scrutinizing gene base sequences, investigating relationships between multiple genes, and comparing genes with other species just like a city map which can be used in a variety of ways, such as looking up addresses, finding restaurants, and comparing topography. TASUKE+ was developed as a navigation system that meets these needs. Currently, it is widely used by researchers targeting grains, vegetables, and fruit trees.
TASUKE+ allows users to create their own TASUKE+ according to their usage. The rice version of RAP-DB TASUKE+, which collects and organizes rice genome information, has total number of visitors: 5,585 and number of page views: 768,061 (November 2022 to October 2023). The Mikan Genome DB, TASUKE+, etc., which compiles information on citrus fruits, has been published and it is helping to create new improved varieties. It is also possible to use genome information obtained on the Internet or independently acquired by incorporating it into TASUKE+.
This update satisfies the needs of many users by improving its internal processing capabilities so that even large amounts of genome information can be instantly visualized.
There is a high need for the use of genome information, and it is expected that individual researchers, breeders, educational institutions, etc. will be handling even larger amounts of genome information. We will continue to update TASUKE+ further in the future.
A presentation about this updated version of TASUKE+ will be held at the International Plant & Animal Genome Conference 31. (San Diego, California, USA, January 12-17, 2024)
Research Center for Advanced Analysis, NARO (NAAC), is engaged in the development of the above-mentioned tools, and actively promotes tool construction, research and analysis support, provision of equipment and facility use, and joint research and development using these as a starting point. We will help to promote your research and development.
