NARO concluded MOU with Thailand's NSTDA

- Towards collaborations in innovative agriculture and food research -

NARO concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) of Thailand. The major thrust of the MOU is to promote R&D collaboration in agriculture and food science in both Japan and Thailand. Joint research activities in the field of bioltechnology are expected in the future.


Overview

The National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO) concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Thailand's National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) on February 16, 2018. The MOU was signed by Dr. Akihiro Sasaki, Senior Vice President of NARO, and Dr. Narong Sirilertworakul, President of NSTDA, in a ceremony held at the Grand Nikko Hotel in Daiba, Tokyo. The MOU signing ceremony was also attended by Minister Suvit Maesincee of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Thailand and Minister Cherchai Chaiviavid of the Royal Thai Embassy in Japan.

The major thrust of the MOU is to promote mutually beneficial collaboration in various fields of agriculture and food research including the innovative genome editing technology. Moreover, the conclusion of this comprehensive MOU is expected to promote not only research collaboration between NARO and NSTDA, but also cooperation in a wide range of research initiatives between Japan and Thailand.

NSTDA is a research agency under the Ministry of Science and Technology of Thailand which promotes research and development, technology transfer, human resources development, and infrastructure development. It was established to support the development of the Thai economy through R&D in science and technology in both the public and private sectors.
