• The Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) and the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO) are jointly organizing an international symposium on August 31, 2017 (Thursday) in Tsukuba, Japan.
• This symposium focuses on the activities and outputs of the international research network on agricultural greenhouse gas emissions for mitigating climate change mainly in Japan and Asia.

Overview

Greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector account for about a quarter of global emissions. In order to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the agricultural field, the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) was organized based on agreement of governments. GRA is engaged in international collaborative research and activities to deepen and broaden mitigation research efforts in agricultural sectors involved in livestock, agricultural land, paddy fields etc.

The symposium is organized in conjunction with the 2017 GRA Council meeting which will be held in Tsukuba, Japan on August 29-30, 2017 with participants including the board of directors from around the world, researchers, experts and the general public in Japan, to provide an overview of the GRA research activities mainly focusing on achievements in Japan and Asia.
