NICS invited Prof. Roland von Bothmer, from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, as the lecturer for the 87th NICS seminar, "Will our genetic resources be preserved in the future?"
Prof. Roland von Bothmer gave a lecture on the Svalbard Global Seed Vault (capacity to store three million different seed samples), in Svalbard Island, in the Arctic Circle. Because the Seed Vault is inside the permafrost, the temperature inside would be maintained at minus five degrees Celsius, even if the power supplies? should be lost.
