The Institutes of Crop Science in Japan, China and Korea take turns to host the Crop Science Seminar in East Asia. This year it was hosted by NICS at the Hokkaido Citizens Activities Center (Sapporo, Japan).
The theme this year was "Breeding Technology in Rice and Upland Crops--From Genetic Resources to Breeding". 12 presentations about rice, barley, soybean and miscellaneous cereals were given, each followed by discussion.
The Japanese researchers made presentations on high quality barley breeding, disease-resistant potato breeding, virus-resistant soybean breeding and rice genome breeding.
The Welcome Address was delivered by the Director General of NICS.
