Message from the President
Creating Value through Diversity
The environment surrounding the agriculture and food sectors is changing at an unprecedented pace and complexity due to increasing concerns about food security, global environmental issues, and demographic and social structural changes. In addition, we are facing a situation in which both "crisis" and "growth opportunities" exist at the same time, as geopolitical risks and resource constraints become apparent. In such an era, the role of NARO is not limited to research and development, but to connect "food, agriculture, and natural capital" to society as the core of national security, industry creation, and diplomacy, and to create value for the future.
Under the Sixth Mid-term Plan, NARO has set forth the following three pillars:
- Enhancing food security and food self-sufficiency capacity
- Expanding exports of agricultural products, food, and developed technologies, and creasing new industries
- Achieving both business viability and environmental conservation
To achieve these goals, above all, it is indispensable to strengthen our human capital. Developing and securing diverse talent is a top priority. Our people are the foundation of everything we do. I will fully support those who take on challenges. At the same time, we will clarify our organizational accountability for results. Without embracing both challenge and accountability, there can be no growth.
Not only researchers, but also administrative and technical staff--every member of our organization--is a driving force for value creation. The people who lead innovation are often referred to in English as "Innovation Champions." These are individuals who actively propose and promote new ideas, technologies, and systems within an organization, serving as a driving force for positive change. In other words, I believe that those who, regardless of their position in an organization, have the determination to overcome existing barriers and take a step forward are truly important, and these are the kind of people who should build NARO's future. I am convinced that this human capital is the foundation of everything. Going forward, we will further develop an environment in which a diverse range of people can fully demonstrate their individuality and creativity, and maximize their potential.
NARO is committed, with a strong sense of responsibility and determination, to passing "food" on to future generations.
When NARO changes, Japan's agriculture and food industry will change.
This will help ensure food security and create a new industry with growth potential.
We are determined to achieve this transformation with all executives and employees working as one.
President
CHIBA Kazuhiro
