Visit to the President-NARO Headquarters

Date of visit: May 9th, 2016
Weather: Cloudy

Hello, everyone! This is Narorin♪
In this Narorin Report or Naroripo, I will tell you about my visit to the NARO Headquarters.Today is quite special! This is the first Narorin Report or Naroripo after the re-organization of the new NARO in April 2016.

And this is the place I visited this time... the office of the NARO President: Dr. Tokio IMBE!

The purpose of my visit is to give the President a pin badge with the new NARO logo in it.

I wonder if the President is here. Knock knock... excuse me Mr. President.

Oh, he's here. Hello Mr. President. May I come in? I have a present for you. It's the "Narorin" pin badge with the new NARO logo.

The NARO President is a very busy man. And I've never had the chance to talk to him face to face. So I took this chance to engage him in a small talk. I asked him what he thought of me, "Narorin".

Dr. IMBE: As the NARO mascot, I want you to be more and more visible from now on. I want to see you in posters and calendars, and in many different places.

Wow... I was so happy to hear that! Thank you Mr. President. It will give a lot of opportunities for everyone to know more about me.

As I am also the representative of the Gender Equality Promotion Office of NARO, I asked Mr. President about his thoughts on gender equality.

Dr. IMBE: I think everyone in the world wants to live in a society that provides equal opportunities for men and women. NARO adheres to the "Gender Equality Declaration" and its full implementation. In the past, there was a female researcher who quit her job after her maternity leave. I think this is a very unfortunate situation. So I want to make NARO an organization supported by a system and a work environment that allows longer employment.

That was so encouraging especially coming from the President.

Dr. IMBE: From the administrative point of view, I want to promote a more diverse workforce. Regardless of gender, I think it is very important to give equal opportunities to talented people in order to invigorate this organization.

Hmm... I wish that NARO will be more and more active from now on!
By the way, the President has three daughters! Therefore, the issue of gender equality and allowing women to continue working for a long time is very close to his heart. Getting support from the man on top is a great thing! Finally, we had a picture together. Thank you very much, Mr. President.

Talking with the President gave me a lot of inspiration and encouragement to strive even harder in promoting gender equality at NARO.

Now I'm wondering where to go next...
