The international symposium on "Sustainable Development for Pasture-based Beef Cattle Farming" was held at Beppu Housenso in Aoyama-cho, Beppu City, Oita Prefecture on July 27, 2018. This symposium was organized by the Western Region Agricultural Research Center, NARO and focused on the pasture-based beef cattle farming in New Zealand and issues that must be addressed in Japanese beef cattle production for sustainable development. The speakers included Dr. Rebecca Hickson (Massey University), Richard Morrison (Manawatu/Rangitikei Federated Farmers), and farm stakeholders from Ibaraki Pref., Oita Pref. and Hokkaido. A total of 125 participants from farmer's organization, extension services, public research organizations attended the symposium.
