The dean and the professors from College of Bioresources and Agriculture, National Taiwan University visited NARO on May 11th, 2023. After a greeting session with President Dr. KYUMA, they visited the Institute for Agro-Environmental Sciences (NIAES). At the Natural Resources Inventory Museum, a researcher introduced a web-based soil inventory system "e-SoilMap II" and demonstrated a website tool to visualize estimated amount of soil organic carbon in soil. Visitors listened to an explanation of research on "soil carbon accumulation" at the automated greenhouse gas (GHG) measurement facility. Next, the delegation visited the "plant factory" of the Institute of Vegetable and Floriculture Science (NIVFS). A researcher introduced the outline of the facility and the approach to improve the efficiency of greenhouse horticulture by utilizing a next-generation plant factory. The half-day visit was rounded out with presentations by Research Center for Agricultural Robotics (RCAR) researchers introducing Just-In-Time & Quality (JIT-Q) production system and the data-driven soil maintenance system. Throughout the visit, opinions were lively exchanged and discussions on future research exchanges took place.
