NARO-FFTC Joint Symposium 2019 : Current Trends and Perspectives of IoT /AI Technologies in the Livestock Industry

lot/AI

     In Japan and Western countries, the number of livestock per farm tends to be large as animal husbandry is accumulated to large-scale farmers. It is therefore necessary to develop technologies that will allow livestock management by a small number of people. Aiming on the establishment of a labor saving and precise farming system, IoT (Internet of Things) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are now utilized to develop technology for smart livestock management. Various techniques including dairy farming automation and diseases detection through "visualization" of livestock health condition realized by sensor technology have been developed as well. In Japan for example, milking robots, activity sensors, body surface temperature sensors, rumen sensors, etc. have been developed and currently used by livestock farmers.
     National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), cosponsored by the Food and Fertilizer Technology Center for the Asian and Pacific Region (FFTC), will hold a joint symposium. We invite domestic and foreign researchers to this symposium for introducing the current state of technology development related to smart livestock management including advanced technologies in Western countries and to discuss future prospects in order to contribute to the spread of smart livestock technology suitable for the Asia-Pacific region.

Objectives

  • To share information on the state-of-the-art research in animal husbandry and zoology;
  • To provide a venue for exchange of ideas, emerging technologies and knowledge on smart livestock industry with potential applications in the Asian and Pacific region
