Livestock Waste Management Group

The Kyushu region has the largest populations of beef cattle, pigs, and broiler chickens in Japan, resulting in a high livestock density. Consequently, livestock-related environmental problems caused by manure are particularly serious in this region.
During the treatment of livestock waste, multiple issues arise, including odor generation, low-quality compost resulting from poor fermentation, and water pollution originating from wastewater discharged from livestock facilities, which have significant negative impacts on livestock farm management.
To address these challenges, the Livestock Waste Management Group is working on the following initiatives:

  • Development of automation technologies to improve labor efficiency and the surrounding environment in livestock waste treatment
  • Development of technologies to improve compost quality through control of the composting process and compost pellet production
  • Development of livestock wastewater treatment technologies to ensure compliance with effluent standards

Through these efforts, we aim to promote the establishment of resource‐circulating livestock production systems and contribute to both the sustainable development of the livestock industry and environmental conservation.
