Feed Production Group

In order to increase the production of beef cattle for the expansion of the export of Japanese beef, and to make exported beef competitive in overseas markets, it is necessary to reduce the production cost of fattening cattle in line with the increase in the number of calves. In order to achieve efficient fattening cattle production, including improving calf productivity of breeding cows, year-round planting technology for stable production of high-quality self-sufficient roughage required at each stage of the breeding, rearing and fattening seamless management system at low cost is indispensable.
Hence the Feed Production Group is engaged in,

  • Breeding of forage crops (Italian ryegrass, embaku, sorghum, corn, etc.) for warm regions that enable low-cost production of roughage with high yield and disease resistance
  • Development of a new planting system that can reduce weather risks by introducing high-quality grass species suitable for year-round feed production and cultivation management technology.

Through these technological developments, we will establish a year-round planting production system for forage crops for warm regions, and contribute to increasing beef cattle production and reducing fattening cattle production costs.

Winter Italian ryegrass widely used in warm regions
