Bioinformatics Group

The Bioinformatics Group conducts large-scale analyses of diverse omics data, including genome and transcriptome data, and develops research infrastructure to support their effective use. Massively parallel sequencers are now widely applied to the study of a broad range of biological phenomena, including genome sequence analysis, gene expression and its regulatory mechanisms, as well as metagenomic analysis of microbial communities. However, the enormous volumes of data generated by these technologies are not easy to analyze and interpret. By leveraging cluster computing systems and massively parallel sequencing technologies, our group supports a wide range of omics analyses of diverse organisms, including the discovery of useful genes and the analysis of their functions, while also building information infrastructure that contributes to smart breeding based on genomic and gene information. We also develop databases, analytical tools, and visualization techniques that enable researchers to make effective use of diverse omics datasets in their own research.
