With the remarkable progress of life science analytical instruments, it is possible to grasp huge amount of genomic information. In particular, with the popularization of the so-called "next-generation sequencer", it has become possible to decipher the entire genome sequences of species with large genome sizes, such as animals and plants even in the laboratory, and the whole genome sequencing has become a means, not a purpose of research. However, it is not easy for researchers who are not specialized in bioinformatics to analyze the huge amount of decoded genomic information. Bioinformatics Unit has established a large-scale computer system to efficiently analyze a large amount of omics information such as genomes and transcriptomes and is building a research platform that can be easily used by any researchers. We also develop applications and databases that can comprehensively utilize various data and provide them to researchers for free use. Furthermore, by analyzing the omics information of various species, we are conducting research on genes that can be targets for crop breeding and developing technologies for predicting phenotypes.
