The Protein Research Group focuses on understanding proteins that play important roles in the agri-food sector, with particular emphasis on the molecular basis of protein function. By integrating structural, functional, and analytical approaches, the group aims to clarify the regulation of protein function and the relationship between changes in protein structure and function.
Research activities include three-dimensional structural analysis using X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, and related approaches, together with functional assays, mass spectrometry, and other complementary techniques applied as appropriate. These methods are used selectively to interpret functional differences and regulatory mechanisms rather than as ends in themselves.
Building on this molecular-level understanding, the group pursues applied research that leverages structural and functional insights, including the design of high-performance proteins and studies of compounds and regulators enabling precise control of protein function. Through collaboration with internal and external partners, the Protein Research Group seeks to connect molecular insights to practical applications and contribute to the foundation of technologies supporting agriculture.
