The Biodiversity Monitoring Group aims to accelerate the realization of a "nature-positive" approach in agricultural ecosystems, with the goal of restoring and enhancing biodiversity. To this end, the group is developing and promoting the social implementation of simple methods for assessing biodiversity in orchards, upland fields, and other agricultural landscapes.
To verify the effectiveness of nature-positive initiatives, it is essential to establish assessment methods that can be applied across diverse and wide-ranging agricultural areas while minimizing the burden of field surveys. In our group, we are adapting biodiversity survey methods using environmental DNA (eDNA) for agricultural environments, as well as developing simplified evaluation methods targeting flower-visiting insect communities involved in the pollination of fruit trees and vegetables.
Through these approaches, we aim to build a scientific foundation that contributes to the coexistence of agriculture and biodiversity.
