Enteric Pathogen Group works to prevent the spread of enteric bacterial infections in livestock. We conduct large-scale genome analyses of pathogenic Escherichia coli and Salmonella to understand how virulence and antimicrobial resistance evolve and to develop technologies for identifying high-risk strains and emerging lineages. We are also developing methods to reduce Campylobacter from the intestinal tracts of livestock to support the production of safe meat.
In addition to animal-focused research, we address One Health challenges by analyzing antimicrobial-resistant bacteria and resistance genes in farm environments and developing strategies to reduce them. We also support disease control efforts through diagnostic services and field investigations related to enteric pathogens.
