Immunological Mechanisms Research Group conducts research aimed at developing vaccines and serological diagnostic methods based on elucidating host immune responses to bacterial infectious diseases. Particular emphasis is placed on intracellular bacteria, and interactions between bacteria and immune cells are analysed at the molecular level to advance understanding of both the establishment of infection and host defence mechanisms. Specifically, we utilize experimental animal models as well as field isolates obtained through disease diagnostics and related investigations. By integrating a wide range of analytical approaches, including bacteriology, immunology, and biochemistry, we investigate the mechanisms of infection and host immune responses associated with pathogens such as Salmonella, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, and Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis. Building upon these fundamental research findings, we seek to enhance preventive and diagnostic strategies and promote their practical implementation through collaboration with industry partners and governmental organizations.
