The infection level of Theileria sergenti in salivary glands of vector ticks, Haemaphysalis longicornis Okayama strain, H. longicornis Kuriyagawa strain and H. mageshimaensis Geruma strain were experimentally compared.
The infection level in H. longicornis was higher in nymphs than adults. The highest infection in nymphal stage was observed in H. longicornis Kuriyagawa strain. On the other hand, the highest infection in adult stage was observed in H. mageshimaensis Geruma strain.
These results seggested differences in Theileria development in arthropod vector among tick species or strains.
