Examples of Target Insects

In the Department of Insect Innovative Technologies, we focus on the diverse and unique biological functions of insects, aiming to create new insect‐based industries and to develop innovative approaches to insect pest management.
In response to the growing global demand for protein, insects are attracting increasing attention as promising and sustainable protein resources for livestock and aquaculture feed. In particular, we place emphasis on exploring the use of insects as alternative protein sources that can contribute to more sustainable food production systems.
In addition, we conduct research on innovative insect control technologies that make use of pest‐specific target sites as well as biological interactions between insects and other organisms. Through these research activities, we seek to reduce environmental impacts, promote the recycling and efficient use of resources, and strengthen food production systems that support a stable and sustainable food supply in the future. In this way, our research supports the goals of the "MIDORI" Strategy for Sustainable Food Systems and the enhancement of food security.
