Division of Crop Design Research

Currently, in order to maintain and improve agricultural productivity under environmental changes due to global warming and other factors, it is necessary to have a technological foundation that maximizes the functions of crops. When we look at wild plants growing in poor environments, there is very little progress in our understanding and utilizing the various functions of genetic resources such as resilience.
Therefore, in order to make the best use of the biological functions such as the high environmental adaptability of unused genetic resources such as wild species, we will develop tools for the search and evaluation of beneficial genes from these genetic resources and functional analysis, and non-destructive measurement methods, and construct a prototype of crop design technology that combines these by using AI.
The goal is to detect beneficial genetic alleles from unused resources with high accuracy and quickly construct a material development system. The crop design technology to be constructed will be open sourced as a highly versatile crop development open platform that solves various social problems. In the future, the goal is to develop a platform that enables crop development in a short period of time without using a growing field, and to enable new entrants from other industries to participate in crop development.
