Custom Breeding Group

We are building a high-speed custom-made breeding system that can respond quickly to the needs of actual users, such as the development of group of excellent early generations by high-speed rapid generation advancement technology and data drive. The high-speed generation promotion technology can shorten the growing period of rice to as short as 70 days. By combining high-speed generation advancement technology and DNA marker selection technology utilizing genome information, individual plants and lines that meet needs are efficiently selected in a short period of time. In addition, by using data-driven breeding selection platform technology that utilizes growth and yield prediction models based on image information, we will create a group of excellent early generations that integrates multiple useful genes as a platform for quickly cultivating varieties in response to the needs of public research institutes and private companies, and promote the demonstration of trait prediction AI. This technology will be used in joint research with private companies to develop rice varieties with both high-yielding and tasty, or with property suitable for frozen rice and rice flour. We will also promote the use of pioneering breeding materials such as high environmental adaptability developed by Division of Crop Design Research.
