Department of Apple Research

  • We develop high-quality apple cultivars that enable labor-saving cultivation in response to the aging of farmers, shortage of successors, and ongoing global warming, while also contributing to the expansion of exports.
  • We develop high-efficiency apple production technologies, including training and pruning techniques aimed at converting conventional three-dimensional tree architectures into planar (two-dimensional) forms that are easier to manage, as well as fruit set management techniques that ensure stable, high yields year after year.
  • We develop environmentally sustainable pest and disease management technologies by integrating the use of disease-resistant cultivars and natural enemies with timely, reduced-pesticide control based on pest and disease forecasting.
