Division of Hydraulic and Hydrologic Engineering

Division of Hydraulic and Hydrologic Engineering have been developing the real time water management system that supports an optimal water control in flood disasters or drought, to establish the resilient farming zone against floods and water shortages.
In recent years, farmers are faced with many problems, such as the trends of frequent and intensified heavy floods and water shortages caused by climate change, increased water management workload due to the diversified agricultural production and labor shortage. We are aiming for solving the various water related problems by the following two groups.

  • Watershed Management Group has been developing the following techniques with hydrological observations or numerical simulations. The method to forecast water resources and shortage in watershed. The watershed management method that utilizes the agricultural fields and the irrigation facilities to reduce floods. The technique to evaluate a function of an impervious wall of subsurface dams using the tide response analysis or the age dating of groundwater.
  • Irrigation and Drainage Management Group has been developing the remote monitoring and operation system that controls the irrigation and drainage facilities optimally even during floods, using AI.
