Division of Regional Resource Utilization Research

Extreme weather that is considered to be the effect of global warming is occurring all over the world. As one of the measures to prevent global warming, there is a worldwide need to shift to a decarbonized society in order to achieve carbon neutrality, which equalizes the amount of carbon dioxide emitted and absorbed. Japan declared carbon neutrality by 2050 in October 2020, and targets for the agricultural sector by 2050 include achieving 0 emissions (technological innovation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions) and reducing the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers.
Under these circumstances, Division of Regional Resource Utilization Research is conducting research on the evaluation, utilization, and conservation and management of local resources such as rural energy and social capital. In particular, it is focusing on the development of methods and technologies to maximize the effects of global warming mitigation technologies associated with agricultural production activities.
