Western Region Agricultural Research Center, NARO

Division of Hilly and Semi-Mountainous Area Horticulture Research

In the hilly and mountainous areas, there are large variations in growth and quality due to the diverse cultivation environment. Also they face issues such as uneven harvest, weak market competitiveness, difficulty in controlling advanced growth environment because of inability to rely on external energy. In our division, we strive hard to realize stable supply of agricultural products such as vegetables in order to meet the demand of large consumption areas & actual user, and to realize highly profitable regional farming. Therefore, we utilize renewable energy through recycling of unused local resources, and aim to build a stable supply system for high-quality vegetables that combines optimization of cultivation management, stabilization of quality, and uniformity of horticultural crops. In addition, we also develop high-quality, high-yielding soybean varieties and naked barley varieties with good eating quality and high functionality that meet the desires of consumer, actual user and producer.
