The National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO) has developed a detailed map that allows individual production regions to assess the suitability of mandarin oranges, which are increasingly affected by heat damage such as sunburn, and avocados, which are cultivated in subtropical climates, under mid- and late-21st century climate conditions. The map reveals that many areas projected to become too warm for mandarin cultivation are suitable for avocado cultivation. In such regions, transitioning not only to citrus varieties better adapted to warmer climates but also to avocados is presented as a viable climate adaptation strategy.
