Koshi City is located in the inland area of Kumamoto Prefecture in Kyushu. The northern part of the city is an extensive agricultural area that is covered with volcanic ash-infiltrating soil from Mt. Aso, which is known as the world's largest active volcano, and the area is the granary in the region. It is adjacent to Kumamoto City and the population is on an increasing trend. The city was ranked first in the Kyushu region in the "Livability Ranking" (2019) by a business magazine Toyo Keizai Shinpo Co., Ltd.
